Deciding where to elope is a personal and intimate decision, and there are many factors to consider. Here are some suggestions to help you make a decision:
Consider the location’s significance: Think about the places that are meaningful to you and your partner. It could be a place where you had your first trip or a location that holds a special memory. This can make your elopement even more special and meaningful.
Think about the scenery: Whether it’s a beach, a mountain, a forest, or a cityscape, choose a location that speaks to you and your partner’s interests. If you want a more intimate experience, consider a secluded spot with a breathtaking view! For example, if you love to hike, choose a mountain elopement!
Consider logistics: Consider the cost of travel and accommodations, as well as the legal requirements of getting married in the location you choose. Make sure you research the legal requirements and obtain any necessary permits and licenses. TIP – if you only take the pictures and not do an actual marriage ceremony, you usually don’t have to worry about any permits!
Weather and time of year: Keep in mind the weather patterns and seasonality of the location you’re considering. Some locations may be crowded during peak seasons or the weather may be unpredictable at certain times of the year. It might be too hot or too cold at certain locations and different times of the year. You don’t want to freeze in a dress or sweat all your make up off!
Prioritize your safety and timing: Ensure that the location you choose is safe and secure for you and your partner. If you’re traveling abroad, check the requirements and recommendations from the local embassy or consulate. Some hikes looks amazing in photos but are super difficult to get to! Make sure you also consider hike time… some take HOURS and that will have to be factored into the timeline!
Pick your dream vacay: A lot of people combine their destination wedding / elopement with the honeymoon!!! If there is somewhere in the world you want to go and think is beautiful, this is a perfect excuse to spend the money and go!! Get married on the second day (I suggest the second so you have time to settle from flights / travel), then spend the rest of the week honeymooning as newly weds and exploring this new destination!!!
Ultimately, the decision of where to elope is a personal one and should be based on what feels right for you and your partner. Take the time to explore your options and choose a location that aligns with your values and desires for this special moment!!
PHOTOS FROM ANNA + RICKEYS COLORADO ELOPEMENT BELOW 🙂
Here are some of my faves from Anna + Ricky’s Elopement at Paint Mines in Colorado!! It was soooo beautiful and since it was on a week day, there weren’t a lot of other people around! They even added an elevated picnic as their reception. We timed it to go into night so that I could capture them with the moon + stars. This was so perfect for them and a day I will never forget!!
