Have a conversation with me (the photographer) about the vibe you are going for and any specific shots you have in mind.
Communicate any special considerations, like favorite locations or props.
Select the Right Location:
Choose a location that holds significance for your family or one that complements the style you want.
Consider natural settings with good lighting, like parks, beaches, or gardens.
Coordinate Outfits:
Decide on a color scheme or theme for your outfits that complements each other without being too matchy-matchy.
Avoid busy patterns or super bright colors and opt for timeless, classic styles.
Timing is Everything:
Schedule the session at a time when your family is typically at their best, such as when kids are well-rested and cooperative.
Aim for early morning or late afternoon for the best natural lighting.
Bring Props and Personal Items:
Consider bringing props that represent your family’s personality or interests.
Include personal items like a favorite blanket, toy, or accessory.
Relax and Be Yourselves:
Encourage natural interactions and expressions!!! I can’t express this enough. The best photos are taken when the parents let the kids just be kids.. I love photos of kids that are running around playing and having a good time.
Try to relax and have fun; genuine smiles and laughter make for the best photos.
Include a Mix of Posed and Candid Shots:
While posed shots are great, candid moments often capture the true essence of your family.
Let me capture both to provide a well-rounded collection of images.
Plan for Breaks, Especially with Kids:
Bring water and any necessary items to keep everyone comfortable. Make sure everyone is fed and happy before coming! If you have a baby, make sure they have a fresh diaper so that they are comfortable as well. Plan to arrive early just incase you need to change them or do any last minute things before the session!
Plan for breaks, especially if you have young children, to avoid fatigue and crankiness.
Be Patient and Flexible:
Sometimes the unexpected can happen, and not everything will go according to plan. Stay patient and flexible.
Trust your photographer and be open to their suggestions.
Post-Session Review and Selection:
Work with your photographer to review and select the best images.
Consider creating a photo album or framed prints to cherish and display your favorite shots.
Remember, the key to a successful family photo session is creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The goal is to capture genuine moments and connections that reflect the unique spirit of your family.
