Amsterdam was the first stop on my 17 day journey around Europe! When we arrived, we checked into our Airbnb which was SO CUTE!! It was called “Hotel Not Hotel” and we had our own little private room INSIDE of a secret book shelf! We freshened up and headed downtown.
Pro tip – go find a train / bus / metro station in any city you go to and ask for a visitor pass! We did a 24 hour pass since we were only going to be there a day. We walked around and saw the beautiful canals of Amsterdam, got a pastry, then we found this cool seating area where you climb up a little ladder and sit up above the street. We sat in the sun and it was warm and just cool to sit there!!
Next, we got the best fries I have EVER had and also the famous Van Wondern Stroopwafels (there was a line, but it was worth it). We shopped around and just like that, our time in Amsterdam was up! I had been before but it had been years.. theres definitely enough stuff to do for a few days there!
Bright and early, we took a train to Brussels. I didn’t have super high expectations, but I ended up loving it! As soon as we got off the train, I grabbed Dunkin for some energy and we got to go check in the Airbnb.
Another tip – always message the Airbnb host and see if you can check in early… almost every single time they said yes or at least let us do a luggage drop!
We explored downtown and the beautiful architecture – including an old church that was gorgeous and got some waffles for breakfast!
Then we went to a Van Gogh experience and I loved it SO much.. we both teared up!!! For lunch we got more fries with special sauce… they were good but the Amsterdam ones were my fave!
We went to dinner that night and met some new friends from all over the world and just had ourselves the best evening (make sure to try the signature cheery beer while you’re there)!
& just like that we were headed onto Pairs!! Click below to head over and read the Paris blog (we were there a lot longer)!
