The Red River Gorge in Kentucky is a beautiful and popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. If you’re considering an elopement in this stunning location, here are some tips to help you plan:
Obtain a Marriage License: Before you can get married, you will need to obtain a marriage license from the county clerk’s office in Kentucky. Make sure to do this well in advance of your elopement.
Choose a Location: The Red River Gorge has many beautiful locations that would be perfect for an elopement. Some popular spots include Chimney Top Rock, Natural Bridge, and Sky Bridge. The pictures below were taken close to the top of the sky lift at natural bridge (you can see the bridge itself in the background).
Plan for the Weather: Kentucky weather can be unpredictable, so make sure to check the forecast and plan accordingly. Bring warm clothes if you’re eloping in the fall or winter, and be prepared for rain if you’re eloping in the spring or summer.
Consider Lodging: If you’re planning to stay in the Red River Gorge area for your elopement, there are many options for lodging, from cabins to campsites. Make sure to book your accommodations well in advance, especially if you’re eloping during peak season. There are also really cool glamping options on AirBnB that I think would be so cool to stay in (tree houses and open sky domes for example).
Explore: RRG has a lot to offer… you can hike, kayak in an underground cave, zip line, and eat amazing pizza at Miguels (pictured below).
Witnesses: Make sure to have two witnesses to sign the marriage license! I can be one of them and you will need one more – if you don’t want to invite any guests, your videographer could also be a witness!
Vendors: You will definitely need a photographer of course (hopefully me hehe). I also help plan elopements… for example, I planned this entire elopement featured below (from the vendors, to the location, timing… everything)! I also recommend a videographer. You will need an officiant, florist, cake baker, and any other vendors that you would like to incorporate into your special day!
Enjoy the Moment: Finally, remember that this day is about the two of you and your love for each other. Take the time to enjoy the beauty of the gorge and each other’s company, and make memories that will last a lifetime!
